Stupid Pet Tricks

As we all know, the cats haven't ventured downstairs since the arrival of the Dog.

Or so I thought.

Apparently, two of the High Kitty Command have been coming downstairs on a semi-regular basis. They go on little sorties, then high tail it back up to Base Station Pussy with reports to the other two.

Another little trick they've honed to a fine art is calling the Dog. John and Pete will sit at the top of the stairs (out of sight) and meow in a horrible high pitched yoweling. It's an awful sound. The Dog, naturally, wakes up and runs as fast as he can to the bottom of the stairs to see where the cats are. He can't see them. So he lays down at watches for them to come out. Eventually Dog gets up and moves back to his comfortable bed and goes back to sleep. Minutes later, the yowling begins again, and back he goes.

Cruel, I tell you.

Last night, it was a lovely evening, so I took Dog for a longer stroll around the grounds. When we came back, Pete had come down the stairs and over the barrier, and was peering out the storm door at Dog and I. By the time we reached the front door, Pete had gone to the stairs and was just sitting.

Of course, Dog was having a conniption fit to try and reach him. Pete knew how safe he was on the third step from the bottom, and just sat there. Looking at Dog. What a tease. Dog ran into the living room and returned with his chew bone and dropped it on the floor, looking at the cat and wagging his tail. Pete got up, stretched and slowly went up the stairs with not even so much as a glance back at Dog. Who seemed broken hearted that Pete wouldn't have anything to do with him. He laid in the hallway for an hour waiting for someone else to come down and play with him. Poor old guy.

And thats how I spend my evenings.
